Spring-Clean Your Business Strategy | VetFran

Spring is the time for warmer weather, allergies…and cleaning. Right?

You might think about spring-cleaning your house, but the new season offers an opportunity to take a good, hard look at all aspects of life and work, including your business plans. Now’s a great time to pause and thoughtfully consider what your franchise is doing well—and what you can do better.

Read on as our VetFran team provides a plan for franchise spring-cleaning!

1. Review What You’re Already Doing

Take a deep dive into your business operations from top to bottom. Consider your revenues, your costs, your marketing, your customer interactions, your approach to customer services and your sales strategy.

What’s working? What’s semi-functional? What’s really not getting it done? Be honest, because taking the time to reboot your work can make a big difference. There’s nothing wrong with admitting something isn’t working and changing your approach.

2. Take a Look at What Others Are Doing

Now that you know the areas of your business that need to be revisited, you need to find a new way to approach them. Reach out to other franchisees for your organization to see how they’re finding success. What’s working well for them in your area of weakness? Because these business owners are well-acquainted with your brand and services/product, they’ll have invaluable perspective.

You can also often find inspiration by looking at what competitors are doing. You don’t want to mimic their efforts, though. Take a look at their approach, then consider how it can be improved. That’s your strategy.

3. Remember That Strategies Evolve

No matter how much success you had when you first started your franchise, you will eventually have to tweak how you do things. Some areas of business simply shift and change over time.

Take marketing, for example. Best practices for marketing today don’t match what they were five years ago, or even a year ago in some cases. Consumer needs and preferences change, and your marketing efforts have to change to keep up.

Same goes for customer service and the customer experience. The pandemic changed how many people interact with businesses, and that isn’t changing any time soon. Franchises have to evolve, or they get left behind.
